The World Health Association announced that famine and hunger have spread across the Gaza Strip, marking the first time such a crisis has been observed in the Middle East.
The organization, alongside other international humanitarian groups, stated that over 55,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women in Gaza require additional nutrition support.
Doctors Without Borders also reported that Israel has cut off access to water sources for Gaza residents as part of what they describe as an act of genocide.
The United nations Deputy Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs stressed that famine in Gaza is a global disgrace and called on the world to take action.
Tom Fletcher said preventing famine in Gaza was possible but their efforts were obstructed. He stated: “the famine in Gaza is a direct result of actions taken by the Israeli government. The aid distribution system there has been dismantled.”
Fletcher added that they are trying to convince the trump governance to allow them to operate effectively to end hunger in Gaza. He warned deaths caused by starvation could qualify as war crimes involving intentional killing.
The UN official concluded with a message directed at Benjamin Netanyahu: “Enough. Stop the war and let us deliver food supplies to the Gaza Strip.”
