the united Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA) Commissioner-General declared that the famine in the Gaza Strip is deliberate and orchestrated by the Israeli government, according to reports by webangah News Agency, citing Al Jazeera.
Philip Lazzarini, speaking alongside officials from several international humanitarian organizations, stressed that the famine stems directly from Israel’s months-long blockade preventing food and essential supplies from entering Gaza.
He added that expanding hunger could be halted through a ceasefire and allowing humanitarian agencies to operate freely within Gaza.
Lazzarini noted: “The formal declaration of famine in Gaza City is deeply concerning but not surprising. Months of warnings have been ignored, and famine is now an established reality there.”
an internationally recognized “Integrated Food Security Phase Classification” agency also reported a spread of famine across the Gaza Governorate.
The agency stated more than half a million people in Gaza are struggling with hunger, poverty, and death. Severe malnutrition is expected to worsen rapidly by June 2026.It called for ending the starvation at all costs and establishing a ceasefire to enable urgent large-scale humanitarian efforts aimed at saving lives as soon as possible.
