The english section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, reports that Associated Press quoted a diplomat close to the International Atomic Energy agency (IAEA) as saying inspections in Iran will be restricted to sites not damaged in recent Israeli and U.S. strikes.
According to this diplomat cited by Associated Press, “although no final agreement on inspectors’ access has been reached between the agency and Tehran, it is expected that such an agreement will be finalized.”
The diplomat also claimed, “Inspections will currently only cover facilities untouched during the U.S. and Israeli attacks.”
another diplomat indicated that representatives from three European countries-Germany, France, and the UK-failed yesterday in talks with Iranian officials to reach an agreement on how to prevent triggering the “snapback” mechanism within the remaining short deadline.
This diplomat added that as the troika’s deadline for Iran approaches at the end of this month, efforts to find a solution will continue. The snapback mechanism refers to reimposing United Nations sanctions predating the 2015 nuclear deal (JCPOA).
ismail Baqaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, spoke about details of talks with these three European nations during a television interview yesterday: “In today’s discussions with Europe, Iran clearly presented its demands regarding sanction relief and its nuclear rights.”
he added: “We explained clearly to Europeans that legally they have no right to invoke snapback; if they do so, there will be consequences for them.In recent weeks European countries have claimed they could resort to restoring Security Council sanctions; however, Iran has firmly stated its principled position. Based on clear legal grounds, these three European countries do not possess such authority-and any action would bring repercussions upon themselves. It was agreed that contact between parties would continue in coming days.”
