According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Reuters, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov described the upcoming trip of Russian President Vladimir Putin to China as “unprecedented” and confirmed that preparations for this visit are in progress.
The meeting is scheduled on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, which will bring together leaders from more than 20 countries worldwide.
The summit will take place from August 31 to September 1 in Tianjin, a port city in northern China.
Peskov also stated that discussions between Russia and the US regarding Ukraine should continue in a non-public framework to be effective.
He said: “Russia believes that discussing details of Moscow-Washington negotiations about Ukraine without considering the broader context is unproductive. We believe these talks must proceed behind closed doors.Only then can results be achieved.”
Peskov added that communications between Russia and the US continue through established channels.
He highlighted former US President Donald Trump’s mediation efforts aimed at resolving the war in Ukraine as meaningful.
“we deeply appreciate and hope these peace-oriented mediation efforts by the US president will persist,” Peskov said. “We believe these initiatives are very important and could genuinely lead toward constructive agreements.”
