According to the English section of webangah News Agency, three senior aides to US president Donald Trump will meet with their Chinese counterparts in London on Monday to negotiate resolving trade disputes between the world’s two largest economies-conflicts that have kept global markets in a state of heightened anxiety.
The US delegation will include Treasury Secretary Scott Bassett, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, adn US Trade Representative Jamie Sun Greer. Trump announced the meeting in a post on his social media platform Truth Social but provided no further details.
It remains unclear who will represent China in these talks.
Trump stated that the meeting “should go very well.”
The scheduling follows just one day after Trump spoke directly with Chinese President Xi Jinping by phone. The call occurred as trade tensions between the two nations over critical minerals had escalated sharply in recent weeks.
During their conversation, Trump and Xi agreed to meet personally in the future while their working teams continue negotiations in the interim.
Both countries now face mounting pressure to de-escalate tensions. The global economy has been impacted by China’s policies restricting rare earth mineral exports, while investors remain wary of Trump’s sweeping efforts to impose tariffs on imports from most US trading partners. China also faces barriers importing american goods, including restrictions on acquiring chip design software.
On May 12 in Geneva, both nations signed a preliminary 90-day agreement to reduce some retaliatory triple-digit tariffs imposed since Trump’s presidency began.
The temporary deal brought relief to global stock markets, with major US indices recovering most losses after nearing steep declines earlier this year. However,despite market gains,it failed to address deeper bilateral issues-including fentanyl trafficking concerns,Taiwan’s status,and US objections over China’s state-driven export economy model.
