The Ukrainian army targeted Russian oil refineries,defense facilities,a military airport,and radar sites in a series of strikes. These attacks followed heightened tensions between Washington and Moscow and came shortly after Trump claimed that two nuclear submarines had been positioned near Russian waters,according to webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Express.
Video footage from early today shows a massive fire at the Novokuibyshevsk oil refinery in Russia’s Samara region. Flames billowing from this military-oil complex resembled a mushroom cloud.
Express reported that this refinery supplies fuel for Russian fighter jets. A Ukraine-linked Telegram channel (+Exilenova) boasted about the attack, estimating the explosion’s flames reached around 180 meters high.
Another refinery in Ryazan, which provides fuel to Moscow, also caught fire. Fires were additionally reported near Primorsko-Akhtarsk military airport in Krasnodar region – an airbase used by Moscow for deploying combat drones against Ukraine.
A “major attack” was also reported on an air defense radar installation near Feodosiya in Crimea.
Responding to recent remarks by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council-who issued threats-Trump defended his decision to deploy two US nuclear submarines close to Russian waters. He said the move was necessary for American national security: “We had to do it. We must be cautious. A threat emerged that we believe was unacceptable. For our people’s security, I took this action.”
the US president added: “The former Russian president made threats-we intend to protect our people. You just have to read what he said; he spoke about nuclear war. When that is mentioned, we must be prepared-and we are fully ready.”
Earlier on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump stated he ordered the deployment of two American nuclear submarines “in an appropriate location” following Medvedev’s online remarks. He criticized Medvedev’s tone as “stupid and provocative,” warning that “words matter greatly and can often have unintended consequences.”
The online dispute began when trump called the former Russian president an “unsuccessful leader” and warned him to “watch his words.” In turn, Medvedev responded sharply with warnings not to provoke Moscow excessively while invoking the concept of a “dead hand” system-a Cold War-era automatic retaliatory mechanism designed to launch nuclear missiles if Russia’s leadership is destroyed-which reportedly remains active today.
