According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, Bernard Orcad, a French geographer and expert on Iran as well as honorary research director at the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), discussed the consequences of the Zionist regime’s brutal attack on the Islamic Republic of Iran in an interview with Lebanon’s Al-Akhbar newspaper.
In his remarks, Orcad pointed out existing differences in Tehran but stated that Israel’s attack on Iran was launched under a false pretext. This occurred despite U.S. intelligence agencies informing Congress on May 15 that Tehran does not have a nuclear weapons program. The assault effectively fostered renewed national unity and helped overcome internal divisions within Iran.
Orcad stressed that Israel aimed to weaken the Iranian people,not just the Islamic Republic. He noted that 92 million Iranians-among the most educated populations in the Middle East-live in a strong country integrated into global society with distinct ideas and tendencies. This is what Israel fears most. Damaging Iran’s nuclear industry equates to damaging its scientific progress.
The French analyst added that former U.S. President Trump took a slightly different approach: he sought to weaken Iran without destroying it and disregarded human rights concerns. he described Iran as intellectually and scientifically advanced, possessing oil and gas reserves sufficient for income generation over 200 years.
Addressing future prospects for nuclear negotiations, Orcad affirmed that Iran certainly wants to resolve its nuclear dossier.”They do not want an atomic bomb because it is extremely costly and would politically isolate them completely; thus it is strategically unfeasible.”
He highlighted a significant challenge: Israel and European countries support zero enrichment policy-meaning no centrifuges at all-but such demands remain wishful thinking for them regarding Iran’s stance. Insisting on this position-as France, Germany, and Britain currently do-reflects their unwillingness to find viable solutions while pursuing military options likely to cause chaos inside Iran. “Israel aims to create disorder within” he said.
orcad also remarked that Western efforts to sabotage negotiations reveal an explicit desire to push Iran toward exiting the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and producing atomic weapons – an outcome unlikely due to widespread public resistance against falling into Israel’s trap across Iranian society.
