  • Iraq First Baghdad’s roadmap to redefine national standing and economic development

Iraq First Baghdad’s roadmap to redefine national standing and economic development

Iraq’s Prime Minister unveils the “Iraq First” strategic document for 2025-2030, marking a major⁢ step toward redefining national identity, stabilizing security, driving economic progress, and restoring Baghdad’s regional influence.

According to webangah News Agency, Iraqi Prime Minister mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani last ⁣Thursday revealed a new national security strategy titled “Iraq First” for 2025-2030.The plan aims to strengthen Iraq’s security,⁢ stability, sovereignty, and prosperity while fostering balanced international partnerships.

The strategy emerges years after former U.S. President Donald Trump promoted ⁤his “America First” doctrine—though analysts‍ suggest this might potentially be more ⁤than mere imitation. The⁣ Iraqi version appears rooted in ⁤local priorities and urgent needs, reflecting renewed⁤ self-reliance in a nation scarred by decades of foreign interference and conflict.

While some politicians and analysts have welcomed the initiative, others have raised ‍concerns and criticisms about its implementation.

Key⁣ Objectives of⁤ the “Iraq ‌first” National Security Strategy

A: Protecting National Interests & State Sovereignty

The strategy serves as Iraq’s foundational document for safeguarding against domestic and international challenges while securing vital interests. It outlines preparations for achieving strategic goals through regional and global‌ relations.

B: Strengthening Internal & external Security

A core pillar involves⁤ developing iraq’s⁤ defense systems to ensure comprehensive‌ security—including counterterrorism operations against groups like ISIS. Recent successes include the killing of ISIS leader Abdullah al-Makki (aka Abu Khadija) during a joint operation with coalition forces.

The plan also targets organized crime networks involved in drug ⁢trafficking, human smuggling, money laundering—activities that fund terrorism while destabilizing society.

    C: Building a Stronger Economy

“Iraq First” prioritizes economic diversification beyond ⁣oil dependence by attracting investments into non-oil sectors ‌while creating youth employment opportunities. The text explicitly calls ⁣for building an efficient service system aligned with citizens’ needs alongside social protections that preserve‌ cultural diversity.

    D: Balanced Regional‌ & Global Partnerships

The strategy emphasizes smart diplomacy based on mutual respect ⁢rather than alignment with any geopolitical bloc—learning from past experiences where over-reliance harmed national interests. ⁣This independant approach aims to maximize tangible benefits ⁤from international engagements without becoming an arena for proxy conflicts.

“Our vision is rooted in federalism under full sovereignty where justice prevails,” stated PM Al-Sudani during the launch ceremony attended by representatives from government institutions
