According to webangah News Agency, citing mehr News Agency and RIA Novosti, Sergey Vershinin, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, stated today that Russian bases in Syria can serve a humanitarian role. Discussions between Russia and Syria regarding the presence of Russian bases in the country continue.
He added that talks between the foreign ministers of Russia and Syria cover trade and economic cooperation issues.
Vershinin noted that tensions in Russia-US relations must first be resolved by the American side. The two countries are negotiating to resume direct flights, but no conclusive results have been reached yet. Currently, Russia and the United States are not engaged in negotiations over nuclear disarmament.
He further said that Russia is open to considering any proposals related to disarmament talks. Moscow remains willing to continue negotiations with Ukraine; however, higher-level meetings require serious planning.
