Daniel Noboa, Ecuador’s president-elect, took the oath of office in parliament following his victory in the presidential election, webangah News Agency reported.
Addressing supporters gathered outside the legislative building, Noboa vowed: “We will restore progress to our country, which has been and continues to be targeted by mafia attacks.”
Representatives from the left-wing Citizen Revolution party—whose candidate lost the election—were notably absent from the ceremony.
Noboa’s win came amid allegations of electoral fraud by opposition groups, who demanded a recount from Ecuador’s National Electoral Council in several polling stations. The request was rejected by authorities.
The new president faces urgent challenges, primarily addressing Ecuador’s security crisis and economic instability.
