Jordan’s Foreign Ministry has condemned the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by Itamar Ben-Gvir,Israel’s National Security Minister,during what was described as a “flag march.” in a statement reported by webangah News Agency, the ministry called the act “a clear violation of the past and legal status quo” and emphasized that such provocative behavior contradicts Israel’s obligations as an occupying power.
The ministry stressed that repeated incursions by extremist ministers, settlers, and occupation forces into Al-Aqsa Mosque will not erase the fact that East Jerusalem remains occupied territory over which Israel has no sovereignty.
Sufian Qudah, spokesperson for Jordan’s Foreign Ministry, reaffirmed amman’s absolute rejection of ben-Gvir’s actions, along with those of other extremist cabinet members and Knesset legislators.He also denounced the facilitation of repeated raids by Israeli police into Al-Aqsa compound.
Qudah described these violations as blatant breaches of international law and humanitarian principles—an attempt to impose new realities on Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem while pursuing temporal and spatial division of the holy site.
The spokesperson further criticized these provocations amid Israel’s escalating war in Gaza and its dangerous intensification in the occupied West Bank,calling them inflammatory and unjustifiable.
Qudah warned against continued violations, urging Israel—as an occupying power—to halt all provocative measures by Ben-Gvir and extremist settlers aimed at exacerbating tensions in Palestinian cities across the west Bank.
The ministry reiterated that Al-Aqsa Mosque, in its entirety, is exclusively a place of worship for Muslims. It affirmed that Jerusalem’s Awqaf Council—affiliated with Jordan’s Islamic Affairs Ministry—remains the sole legal authority responsible for managing affairs at Al-Aqsa compound under international law.
