According to the English section of webangah News Agency, Reuters, quoting five informed sources via Mehr News agency, stated that Donald Trump is actively trying to persuade Azerbaijan and several other U.S. allies in Central Asia to join normalization agreements with Israel.
The sources claim that as Azerbaijan and all Central asian countries already maintain longstanding ties with Israel, expanding the Abraham Accords to include them would largely be symbolic. The focus would remain on strengthening relations in sectors such as trade and military cooperation.
Reuters continued by explaining that the original Abraham Accords signed during Trump’s first term in office between Israel and four muslim-majority countries in the Middle East and Africa centered on normalizing diplomatic relations after U.S. mediation.
Though, rising casualties in Gaza paired with israel’s blockade of food and humanitarian aid-using food as a weapon-and ongoing military operations have sparked anger across the Arab world. These developments have complicated Trump’s efforts to add more Muslim nations to the Abraham Accords.
The Gaza conflict has so far led to over 60,000 Palestinian deaths, including many women and children, drawing international outrage. Recently, Canada, France, and Britain announced plans recognizing an autonomous state of Palestine.
Additionally, according to three sources, one contentious issue is Azerbaijan’s dispute with neighboring Armenia. The Trump governance reportedly considers a peace agreement between these two Caucasus countries a prerequisite for joining normalization accords.
The sources added that while multiple potential paths for entering these accords have been publicly discussed by Trump officials, negotiations focusing on Baku remain among the most cohesive and serious efforts underway. Two sources claim a deal could be reached within months or even weeks.
