According to webangah News Agency, the Associated Press reported on Iran’s devastating missile attacks on occupied territories, especially targeting scientific centers of the Zionist regime.
The report states that for years, Israel has sought to disrupt Iran’s nuclear program by assassinating its nuclear scientists and eliminating key intellectuals. Now, following an Iranian missile strike on a leading research institute known for its work in biological sciences, physics, and other fields, direct and escalating conflict between Iran and Israel has placed Israeli scientists in the crosshairs.
While Sunday’s pre-dawn attack on the Weizmann Institute of Science caused no casualties, it inflicted heavy damage to multiple laboratories within the campus-destroying years of scientific research-and sent a stark warning to Israeli scientists: they and their expertise are now at the forefront of intensifying hostilities with Iran.
“This is a moral victory for Iran,” said Oren Schuldiner, a professor of cellular molecular biology and molecular neuroscience whose lab was wholly destroyed. “They managed to strike at the shining core of Israeli science.”
Iranian Scientists: Primary Targets in a Long Shadow War
The current confrontation follows years of covert conflict between Israel and iran, during which israel repeatedly targeted Iranian nuclear scientists to delay Tehran’s nuclear program. In recent attacks against Iran, Israel employed similar tactics-killing several nuclear scientists alongside senior military commanders while striking ballistic missile infrastructure.
Conversely, Iran has been accused of previously surveilling at least one Weizmann scientist. Yoel Guzansky, an expert on Iran at Tel Aviv’s Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), noted that “the Weizmann Institute has long been within Iran’s sights.” While uncertain whether Tehran deliberately struck it this time, he acknowledged this possibility.
The multidisciplinary institute maintains ties with Israeli military entities-including collaborations with defense firms like Elbit Systems-which may explain its targeting. Guzansky emphasized that Weizmann symbolizes “Israel’s scientific advancement”, adding: “You harm our scientists; we harm yours.”
Campus Destruction: “Literally Nothing Left”
Founded in 1934 (later renamed after Israel’s first president), Weizmann ranks among the regime’s top research institutions. Its scholars publish hundreds of studies annually; alumni include one Nobel chemistry laureate and three Turing Award winners. The site also housed Israel’s first computer (1954).
The attack damaged two buildings: one hosting life-science labs; another under construction meant for chemistry studies. Dozens more structures were affected.
