According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Jewish Insider, Sebastian Gorka, senior Director of the White House Counterterrorism Unit, claimed that the United States is not pursuing regime change in Iran.
Gorka initially asserted that since Donald Trump’s inauguration in January this year, American forces have eliminated 250 extremist militants, including nearly half considered “high-value targets.”
In a conversation with the think tank Foundation for Defence of Democracies, he said that promptly after Trump’s swearing-in ceremony, he was informed that US intelligence had closely monitored an ISIS fighter operating freely within a compound in Somalia for about 18 months.
“Trump immediately picked up his pen and signed an executive order to take action against this individual. Less than 30 hours later, alongside the National Security Advisor and my team members in the situation room, we watched on a large screen as this ISIS member walked-and then he was reduced to ashes,” Gorka said.
He added that “the United States has built the most precise counterterrorism infrastructure in the world. With just a few electronic leads, any target can be identified and eliminated. If we have details from a target’s mobile phone, we can essentially kill them anywhere on earth within 72 hours.”
Regarding last month’s US strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, Gorka reiterated that “Washington is not seeking regime change in Iran.”
However, he emphasized that White House policy toward Iran remains “maximum pressure.” Despite recent strikes against Iran, Trump continues to claim willingness to negotiate with Tehran while maintaining his failed maximum-pressure strategy.
