  • US Unveils Zangezur Corridor Plan, Issues Warning to Diplomacy Department

US Unveils Zangezur Corridor Plan, Issues Warning to Diplomacy Department

A Caucasus expert emphasized in an‍ exclusive interview with Mehr that recent developments in the South Caucasus indicate suspicious activities regarding ⁣the “Zangazur corridor,” which Iran’s diplomatic apparatus must closely monitor.

The South Caucasus has long been a battleground for ⁢powers such⁣ as Iran, Russia, and the Ottoman ⁣Empire. Following the collapse ⁢of‍ the Soviet Union and the independence of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and georgia,⁢ this⁣ region⁣ transformed into a ⁣global arena with increased involvement from Europe and the United States amid Nagorno-Karabakh conflicts. After Azerbaijan’s⁣ victory in the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war,⁢ tensions intensified over control of the Zangazur corridor connecting Azerbaijan to‌ nakhchivan. Iran opposes ⁢this plan, while Turkic Council countries ⁤and NATO support it. The United States’ recent proposal⁣ to grant a private ⁣company 100-year control over this corridor has further complicated regional dynamics.⁤ In this context, we spoke‍ with ⁤Ehsan Movahedian, an expert on Caucasus affairs.

Ehsan⁤ Movahedian told Mehr that recent days have witnessed⁢ significant‌ shifts in⁢ the South Caucasus demanding attention⁣ from Iran’s diplomatic corps and media outlets.Concurrently with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to⁣ Turkey, bilateral talks ⁣took ‌place between nikol Pashinyan‍ & Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and also Aliyev & Erdoğan. Additionally, Pashinyan ‌and aliyev⁤ held a ‌five- to ‌six-hour meeting in Abu Dhabi discussing a peace agreement.Fragmented news from these talks raises concerns as these developments directly‌ impact Iran’s economic interests‌ and security-perhaps leading ⁣to‌ Tehran’s⁣ geopolitical strangulation.

Movahedian added that clashes are ongoing between Aliyev and Vladimir Putin regarding Azerbaijan’s lobbying efforts within Russia aimed at influencing Moscow’s political-security structures-with Britain and Israel reportedly involved in⁢ this effort as well-prompting Putin to crack down on Azerbaijani migrants inside Russia. Meanwhile, Azerbaijani media increasingly advocate for NATO membership for their country. Attention was drawn recently by statements from Washington’s ambassador to Turkey about leasing for 100 years ⁣a ⁣route planned for‌ passing through Zangazur corridor under management by an American company. Armenia⁤ insists⁢ that Nakhchivan segment should be leased by this⁢ same American company-a proposal rejected by Azerbaijan. This‌ situation carries risky consequences; ‍it creates proximity between Iran and U.S.-led forces politically aligned with Israel and NATO along Northern Iranian borders ⁢stretching ⁢from formerly NATO-member Turkey through‌ Nakhchivan⁣ up to Armenian-Azerbaijani frontiers.

Movahedian noted that even though U.S ambassador claims ⁤about ‍controlling Zangazur have ‍not been accepted officially yet ‘we must remain vigilant’ against any ⁤maneuvers concerning its ⁤establishment or governance structure changes⁣ along this route – especially since Iran ⁢opposes⁢ any geopolitical disruptions involving border adjustments or forced demographic shifts affecting‍ Armenians ther.
He ‍explained: “Iran rejects forced Armenian displacement from mountainous Nagorno-Karabakh as emptying those areas opens‌ doors-as an example according to⁤ reports-to⁢ Israeli forces alongside NATO troops entering under pretexts destabilizing regional balance.”
    Azerbaijan promotes migration policies; Armenia‌ mentions‍ figures near⁣ 300 thousand ⁢displaced individuals.
Iran ⁢voiced objections at ‍ECO summit against proposals encouraging⁢ population transfer or demographic engineering illustrated by movements linking some residents of Azerbaijan Republic toward Armenia territory.

The expert ⁢underscored risks tied to identity manipulation: “Recently there was Joulani’s visit (known jihadist ‍leader)to Azerbaijan which cannot be naïvely reduced only to energy negotiations since his contacts ⁢with ⁤Israeli officials ⁢hint possibilities – namely relocating syrian takfiri militants antagonistic toward each other out of‍ Syria possibly ‌funneling into Azerbaijani ‍soil.” Nonetheless of their backgrounds such extremist factions pose direct threats toward Iranian interests given hostility towards⁤ Shia communities.
Movahedian recalled⁤ Supreme ‍leader Khamenei’s directive‌ issued autumn 2020 warning no⁣ terrorist groups should operate near⁣ Iranian borders.
“We recognize Armenia & Azerbaijan within their current internationally‌ recognized borders; any attempts altering boundaries will prompt⁢ decisive response,” he affirmed.

The analyst‌ continued: “Azerbaijan has pursued territorial claims over certain villages inside ⁤Armenian territory for ⁤several years including Kerkhi (known ‌also as Tigranakert) located close to Armenian frontier adjacent transit routes ⁤connecting Iran-Armenia-Nakhchivan”. Seizure could sever vital road connections linking northern border ‍areas‌ across both countries while nearby strategic high⁢ ground would enhance Baku’s⁣ reconnaissance capabilities facilitating operational encirclement endangering Armenian defenses.”

Ehsan Movahedian stressed increasing cooperation with Russian & Chinese counterparts is critical since all three share aligned interests despite Moscow traditionally considering Central Caucasus part of its⁣ domain.
Azerbaijan has adopted harsher stances vis-à-vis Russia counting on backing‌ from U.S., Israel & Turkey attempting regional leverage moves unsupported fully yet but politically sensitive nevertheless.
Politically powerful groups close to ⁤Baku ‌tacitly endorse Washington-led‍ initiatives creating Zangazur corridor likely prompting Kremlin shift away⁤ from passive⁣ observation toward active opposition preventing establishment without Russian role involved.

“Iran must coordinate closely ⁤with ‌Moscow & Beijing clarifying how ⁣official formation ⁤of ‘Hebrew-NATO’ ‌transshipment channel undermines mutual economic benefits restricting goods-energy transfers while inviting intrusive Western military presence,” he stated emphatically adding convergence⁤ among ⁤Tehran-Peking-Moscow requires ⁣reinforcement.”
The expert further warned Yerevan that⁣ enabling⁤ this corridor‌ threatens its national survival.”

Movahedian⁣ concluded: “They intend dismantling Armenia replacing it ⁣entirely ⁣by a unified Turkic zone configured strategically against both China & Iran – rendering Yerevan ⁤an inconvenient obstacle globally among⁢ Turkic-NATO aligned players.” He described Western designs enticing Armenia through economic incentives masking long-term erasure plans potentially falsifying historical heritage converting entire‍ country latter into ‍mere province under ⁣pan-Turkic umbrella.”

Russian Foreign Minister states that the European Union is attempting to push the United States toward new anti-Russian sanctions, ⁣but the architects of‍ these sanction wars will suffer losses.

The ⁤EU is⁢ also striving to steer the United States toward imposing new anti-Russian sanctions. However, he warned that ‌those behind this sanction war ⁢will bear ⁢losses. “We can handle these sanctions; I⁣ do⁤ not⁣ believe our partners will abandon their trade commitments,” Lavrov stated.

He further ‌noted⁤ that it cannot ⁤be said no progress was⁤ made during talks in Istanbul. ⁤Kyiv’s claim that negotiations in Istanbul‌ are ⁤over reflects⁢ Ukraine’s unwillingness to negotiate. Moscow believes this phase has not yet concluded.

Moscow: Trump’s Recent Statements Are Serious and Need Time for Analysis

The ⁣Kremlin spokesman responded to the US ⁤decision to send ⁣weapons ‍to Ukraine and to the statements made by the US⁣ president‌ against Moscow.

Dmitry⁣ Peskov, Kremlin spokesman, described Washington and NATO’s decision to send more⁤ weapons ⁤to ukraine as a sign⁤ of intent⁤ to prolong the ⁤war, according to the English section of webangah News Agency,⁣ citing Mehr News Agency ⁤and RT.

Peskov said Kyiv views‍ decisions made in Washington and NATO ⁤not as steps toward⁣ peace but rather signs⁣ that‍ the⁤ war will continue.

Regarding recent remarks by former US President Donald‌ Trump, Peskov added that⁢ these statements‍ are very ⁢serious and⁣ that the Kremlin needs time for analysis and evaluation.

The Financial Times and The⁤ Washington post cited informed sources claiming that in a private conversation with⁢ Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Trump encouraged him to attack Moscow and Saint Petersburg. The conversation reportedly⁢ included‌ Trump asking whether Zelenskyy could strike Moscow ⁢if provided with long-range weapons by‍ the‌ US.

In response, a⁤ Russian diplomat stated such reports are generally fake but ‍sometimes turn out to be‍ serious.

  • BRICS Grain Exchange: A New Step to Strengthen the Global Grain Market

BRICS Grain Exchange: A New Step to Strengthen the Global Grain Market

The prospect of establishing a BRICS joint grain exchange ‌has ‌garnered strong support from ⁤member states as well as Arab countries.

According to the English⁢ section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and BRICS TV, Russia’s proposal to launch a grain exchange among BRICS member states ‌has received widespread endorsement from governments and economic experts.First introduced at the BRICS‍ summit in Kazan, the initiative aims to enhance food security, facilitate more⁤ transparent trade, and establish independent pricing indices. Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed this exchange in October 2024, winning swift backing from foreign delegations.

Marina Panyuzhova, an expert at Russia’s Council on Foreign Relations, stated that this exchange could create an independent mechanism for settlements using national currencies, ⁢marking a step towards global food security. Data from the Union of Grain Producers and Exporters indicate that following the 2024 expansion⁢ of BRICS countries, members produced 1.24 billion tons of grain-accounting for 44 percent of global output. By comparison, the United States‌ ranks second wiht 450 million tons shipped ⁤annually; production by China, India,⁤ Russia, and Brazil collectively is three times larger.

Dmitry ⁢Patrushev,Deputy Prime Minister of‍ Russia, added that establishing a BRICS grain exchange would enable independent⁤ price indices providing more realistic assessments of agricultural goods’ value in international markets. This topic also featured prominently at the St.⁢ Petersburg International Economic Forum held in June 2025.

Maxim Markovich, Deputy Minister of Agriculture for Russia, announced his country will soon submit‌ a conceptual plan⁣ for founding this exchange to other BRICS members.

During this forum, Patrushev met‌ with Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri-the UAE ‌Minister of Economy-to discuss bilateral cooperation on ‍launching the exchange.⁢ Given that roughly one-third of UAE’s imported grains come from Russia, Emirati officials have welcomed the initiative.

Peter Chekmaryov-Chairman of the Agricultural Advancement Committee at Russia’s chamber of Commerce-told BRICS TV: “Agricultural commodities ⁣serve as benchmarks⁢ for both economics and diplomacy with key political roles. Considering the large populations within⁣ BRICS countries and their extensive⁤ food requirements,” he said “a specialized commodity exchange is essential.”

Official statistics show that in 2024 Russia harvested about 125.9 million tons of ⁤grain‌ while setting an export record with shipments totaling 72 million tons. Egypt, Turkey and Iran were its largest grain importers that⁣ year.

Apart from these developments ⁤within BRICS itself,
South Africa-as a major grain importer-could leverage this new platform to become a regional transit hub.
Analysts⁣ note Durban and Cape Town ports hold meaningful potential for distributing grains across African markets.

Nedjo Techikofi-a researcher at Durban University Technology-welcomed this initiative as a tool to reduce dependence on Western institutions while boosting‍ use of local currencies.
    “As an importer,” he said,
“South ‌Africa‌ brought in approximately two million tons of wheat during 2022 alone.
This system could open⁢ broader market access including ⁢Egypt,
    Saudi Arabia,
    China
    and UAE.”

The Arab countries view this project as strategically important.
Nasser Abounassar-the Ambassador for Communications Business Foundation (BRICPlus) based in Jordan-noted‌ rising demand-driven imports across Egypt and other Arab nations.
“Countries once exporting grains are now net importers.”
He ⁤added,”This exchange complements China-Russia⁤ efforts toward⁢ building new multipolar global order.”
