Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that any peace agreement with Ukraine must include terms such as “denazification” and Kyiv’s disarmament,according to a report by webangah News Agency citing TASS.
Lavrov emphasized that the treaty should also require the termination of all ongoing legal cases against Russia, the lifting of anti-Russian sanctions, and the return of Moscow’s frozen assets.
“objectives like Ukraine’s denazification and disarmament, removing all sanctions, closing all legal cases against Russia, and restoring Moscow’s illegally seized assets are part of the agenda for any potential peace deal,” he said.
The top diplomat stressed that these conditions must be legally binding in a peace agreement. While reaffirming Moscow’s openness to diplomatic resolution, he insisted negotiations must focus on “lasting peace”, not just a ceasefire. “We don’t need a pause that Kyiv’s regime and its foreign backers would exploit to regroup forces,” Lavrov added.
He argued sustainable peace is impossible without addressing root causes-primarily eliminating security threats posed by NATO expansion and Ukraine’s potential membership. Lavrov further demanded guarantees for Russian speakers’ rights in Kyiv-controlled areas, accusing post-2014 authorities of erasing linguistic/cultural ties with Russia.
The minister called for international recognition of Crimea, Sevastopol, Donetsk/Luhansk People’s Republics, Zaporizhzhia & Kherson regions-whose residents he said persistent their status via referendums. He urged Ukraine to return to its 1990 independence declaration principles enshrining neutrality/non-nuclear status.
