According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu referred to the regime’s operations in Syria that began this morning, stating that Tel Aviv is obligated to keep southwestern syria free of weapons along it’s borders with the occupied territories.
He claimed that Tel aviv will not allow Syria to turn into a “second Lebanon.”
Netanyahu again asserted his support for the Syrian Druze community and expressed hope that Tel Aviv would not have to launch further operations in Syria. He said this largely depends on Damascus’s behavior.
According to Israel’s Channel 12, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar told his French counterpart that if the Syrian goverment continues persecuting Druze communities, Tel Aviv will intervene in this matter.
In related developments, the U.S. special envoy for syria expressed concern over fighting in Suwayda province and claimed efforts are underway to find a solution that preserves the interests of the Druze, local tribes, the Syrian government, and Israel.
The envoy added that Washington is working with all parties involved in Syria toward achieving calm and a peaceful resolution for the ongoing crisis.
