According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Anadolu Agency, following the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) beginning to disarm, Turkey’s president emphasized that “any issues with Kurds, Alevis, and other groups will be resolved through dialog.”
In his speech on Saturday at the 32nd advisory meeting of the justice and Progress Party (AKP), Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said terrorism is ending after 32 years of efforts from both the Turkish government and AKP members.
He stated: “The terrorist infrastructure that existed for 47 years has entered its final stage sence yesterday, Friday, when the PKK began surrendering their weapons in Iraqi Kurdistan. Turkey is stronger than ever and yesterday marked a turning point in reversing a regrettable era by disarming the PKK.”
The Turkish president added: “All obstacles will be overcome. We look to the future and any issue involving Kurds, Alevis or other groups will be addressed through dialogue.”
Erdoğan also said that a Turkey without terrorism is not a result of compromise. “No one has the power to fragment Turkey,” he stressed. The country has long faced exhausting attempts to sow division between Kurds and Turks.
He announced plans to form a parliamentary committee to review legal requirements related to the PKK’s disarmament process. Erdoğan expressed hope that parliament would support this effort with a constructive and facilitative approach.
The president also addressed Kurds in Syria and Iraq directly: “Your issue is our issue, and your security matters deeply to us. Gaza currently witnesses some of history’s most brutal scenes because Kurds,Turks,and Arabs remain divided without forming unity.”
