According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, Sheikh Naeem Qassem, Secretary General of Lebanon’s Hezbollah, detailed his views in an extensive interview with Al-Mayadeen network on various issues. These included support efforts for the Gaza war, the conflict in Lebanon, Hezbollah’s current political and military status, the pager bombings incident, and developments related to Iran.
Support Front for Gaza
The Hezbollah leader stated that following a meeting convened after Israel’s aggression against Gaza within Hezbollah’s leadership council, it was concluded that support for Gaza would be conducted on a limited scale. The evolving situation would be monitored before any final decisions were made.
He added that weeks into their support operations, they ultimately decided not to engage in a full-scale war because achieving desired goals without full involvement remained possible.
Naeem Qassem outlined Hezbollah’s objectives on this front as tying down large numbers of Israeli military personnel in northern territory; displacing settlers to create social, economic, and security crises in northern occupied Palestine; and inflicting maximum casualties on Israeli troops.
Hezbollah Was Not Informed About Al-Aqsa Storm Operation
Qassem emphasized there was no coordination with palestinian resistance forces regarding the Al-Aqsa Storm operation. He confirmed: “We had no prior knowledge of this operation; thus we could not engage in a comprehensive war.”
He explained that Hezbollah received a letter from martyr Muhammad Deif, commander of Hamas’ Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades stating Hezbollah’s current supporting actions were sufficient to meet goals. This was affirmed internally within Hezbollah leadership as well.they decided further escalation would not yield better results.
The secretary general also revealed that based on his information even Tehran lacked prior knowledge of the October 7 operation-some Hamas leaders outside Gaza were unaware as well.
The Pager Bombings Incident Explained
Sheikh Naeem Qassem noted aside from addressing pager bombings and assassinations such as those of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Sayyed Hashim Safi al-Din internally within different committees exist handling these matters.
